2008 General Information:
The Spanish Association of the Midwest is offering scholarships of up to $2000 each to outstanding students who, having already been accepted by a Spanish university or an American university or college study-abroad program, are going to study Spanish language, literature, linguistics, history or other disciplines in the humanities at an accredited university or study program in Spain during the school year 2008-2009.
All applications must be postmarked no later than April 26th, 2008. |

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Students candidates must:
-
be in good academic standing,
-
be currently enrolled at an accredited Midwestern university or college,
-
and demonstrate superior achievement in Spanish studies.
-
Eligibility is limited to applicants from academic institutions in Illinois , Indiana , Iowa , Michigan and Wisconsin .

WHEN IS THE DEADLINE?
All applications must be postmarked no later than April 26, 2008 .
WHAT DO I NEED TO APPLY?
All applicants must submit, in a single packet, the following materials:

Applicant General Information form, included in this mailing, clearly filled out in its entirety.

A copy of the student’s latest course transcript as well as evidence of current academic enrollment.
-
Two letters of recommendation from faculty members attesting to the student’s competence in speaking, understanding, reading, and writing Spanish.
-
A typed statement of purpose describing the student’s recent experience in the field and how the scholarship would enhance his/her plans for further studies or research in Spain . Plans of study must be stated clearly and concisely. Minimum length: 2 pages, typed, double spaced.

An official letter of acceptance either by a Spanish university or an American university or college study-abroad program in Spain .
-
A stamped, self-addressed envelop.
Applications missing any of the required materials will NOT be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee.
The scholarship recipients will be contacted personally and their names posted on the Association’s website.

Meeting you and others from the Asociación was so very lovely! You all had a way of making total strangers feel quite welcome and filled our bellies with yummy comida española! Thank you for all of the above!
And thank you all, too, for your kindness and generosity offered to our son, Justin. As you know, he is SO excited to be going to Spain. I am confident that he will make the most of his opportunities there. I look forward to all of us getting together after his travels and sharing his experiences over some more tapas and good Spanish wine!
